On the Countryside

JANUARY 17, 2011, tuesday, me and my one of my best friends, Kristhy, went to the Northern part of Cebu in search for a good photo shoot location and at the same time, have my photo shoot for my lookbook.nu account.

Here are the photos on the hilly part of Northern Cebu that Kristhy took! :)

Tank top - July; Blouse used as a Cardigan - Herbench; Denim Shorts - from a tiangge in Colon (Downtown Cebu) area; Strappy Sandals - Chelsea

We went all the way up here! I was panting! haha but the view below from above was all worth it! :)
After taking some shoots at the mountain top, we went to the lower part of the mountain. We were looking for a grassy area suitable for my future photo shoots. Upon arriving the area, I changed my clothes! hahaha Of course, I made most of the opportunity being there at the grassy area. So Kristhy took a shoot of me again for my another lookbook look.

I also took the opportunity to shoot Kristhy at the grassy area. (Her photos will be my next blog post.)

Here's another beautiful shoot of Kristhy:

Tank Top - July; Maxi Skirt - BQ Dept. Store; Wedge - Katrina Footwear; Waist Belt - SM Dept. Store

After the shoot at the mountain, we went down, down, down, that I almost rolled down (literally haha). We went to the river for another shoot!

Photos will be posted soon.

Special thanks to Ate Grace who toured us on the mountain area. Thank you so much for your hospitality! :)

CANON Photoskwela PRO goes to the University of San Carlos

The Canon Digital Camera Philippines visited the University of San Carlos – Technological Center to have their Canon Skwela PRO free photography workshop. The said photography workshop was held last January 14, 2012 at the College of Architecture and Fine Arts Building Theater.

The participants of the said photography workshop were mostly advertising students from USC-CAFA. However there were also participants who are from the college of engineering, students from other schools and of course a nursing graduate (ehem, ME! haha!) who are into photography.

The first speaker was Mr. John K. Chua, an advertising photographer:

Mr. Chua lecturing us.

John K. Chua is an advertising and aerial photographer. His clients were the San Miguel Brewery, Mitsubishi Motors, Honda, PLDT, Boysen Paint and a lot more. He’s into photography for a lot of years. He even won an award last Ad Congress for his photo for the Boysen Paint Advertisement.

Mr. Chua told us his experiences being an advertising and aerial photographer. He showed us his portfolio and the story behind those photos that he had taken. When he showed us his aerial photos, I was amazed on how he shot those beautiful photos. He was riding on a helicopter and seeing a beautiful island on his way to the shoot location, he took a shoot of that beautiful island! Wow, it must be very “high” up there!

 Me, J-ann and Mr. Chua

Not only that we heard Mr. Chua’s photography adventures, we also learned from him. He gave us tips about advertising photography. These are the following:
  1. 1.     The best time for night exterior photography is 15 minutes before the sun sets.
  2. 2.     Don’t ask permission from those who does not have the authority, like the security guards. It’s better to ask permission from the manager.
  3. 3.     Shoot then ask! Act like a tourist! (A ninja move perhaps? haha)
  4. 4.     Want shadows on outdoor photography? The best times are early morning and late afternoon.
  5. 5.      The best time for indoor photography is between 10 o’clock in the morning and 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
Mr. Chua and the USC - CAFA students

The second speaker was Sara Black, a fashion and portrait photographer:

Sara Black is a fashion and portrait photographer who shoots a lot of models and celebrities like Gretchen Barreto, Dawn Zulueta, Lea Salonga etc. Her photos can be seen on some magazine covers or on the fashion/beauty sections on some magazines like Preview Magazine, Candy Magazine, etc.

She lectured us about fashion/portrait photography. She told us that photography is painting with light; and that, light has the following requisites in order to have a good photo such as: quality, direction and how the light bounces around the subject. In portrait photography, balance and symmetry is very important as it determines the right/good angle of the subject.

The third speaker was Mr. Tony Despojo, a photojournalist:

Tony Despojo is a photojournalist for many years. He works for the Cebu Daily News. He had covered a lot of the region’s important and “news worthy” events.

Mr. Despojo showed as his portfolio, including the Ormoc flood tragedy that happened 20 years ago (He was using a film Canon camera that time.), the Milo Olympics, the Sto. Niño procession and a lot more.My favorite photo that he took was the photo of the Cebu's provincial bird, the Siloy. :)

He told us that on photojournalism; post processing on the photos taken is only limited to cropping, adjusting brightness and contrast, and color-enhancements. Since photojournalism requires HONESTY and INTEGRITY, the content of the photos must not be altered (e.g. removing unnecessary elements of the photo or adding elements) since it ruins the photo and the photographer’s integrity, and the photo’s story that it brings will surely be changed.

THANK YOU CANON – PHILIPPINES for giving us a wonderful opportunity to learn. :)
MORE POWER! :D

Lace Race

Lace is an openwork fabric, patterned with open holes in the work, made by machine or by hand. The holes can be formed via removal of threads or cloth from a previously woven fabric, but more often open spaces are created as part of the lace fabric. Definition of Lace

The lace made its nice comeback this season. Usually, the lace is associated with being feminine. Wearing lace requires some balance. Pairing lace tops with skinny jeans can balance the “feminine” power the lace brings.  You can also pair lace tops with denim shorts.

Lace Tops – from my Mom’s closet; Skinny Jeans – Forever 21; Wedge – Katrina Footwear.

On this look, the lace tops I wore are from my Mother’s closet! My mother used to wear this lace top when she was on her 30s. She wore the lace top as her school uniform (My mother was a teacher.). I found the top hanging inside her closet and she told that me she hasn’t worn the lace top for years! So, I asked my mother to give the top to me.

The black tube, it’s actually a lace black tube. It’s from a direct-selling company, MSE (Marikina Shoe Exchange). You may order it on the MSE dealer near you. The lace tube tops comes in free size and also in pair; one black lace tube and one white lace tube.

The skinny jeans is from Forever 21, SM City Cebu.

That wedge is actually almost 2 years old, still in very good condition.

thanks for reading! ;)

My 2011 Favorite Lookbook.nu Looks!

2011 was a year when I signed up to Lookbook.nu. Lookbook.nu is a fashion website where you can post your looks and share your style to the fashion community around the world.

I signed up at lookbook.nu last August 13, 2011. For half a year, being a lookbooker, I have a total of 15 looks for the year 2011. Ranging from dressy to casual clothing style, here is the photo of my top 5 favorite looks from lookbook:

One thing that is common among those 5 looks merged - DRESS! Yes, those are my dresses and mini-dresses. I realized that I bought a lot of dresses last year! haha

Starting from left, is my floral dress. I wore this dress during my 21st birthday.

Hype that look on lookbook! :)

2nd look is a denim vest over a printed chiffon mini-dress paired with khaki shorts and strappy flats. This was my outfit when I visited Tacloban City last May 2011.

The photo above was my first ever look posted at lookbook. Hype! Hype! Hype! ;)

At the middle, the 3rd one, is a grey and pink polka dot dress topped with a dark blue blouse used as a cardigan.

POLKA DOTS ARE IN FOR THIS SEASON! :) Hype please :P

Next is a brown tiered dress. My mother gave this to me and I love it! :)

Last but not the least - my floral, specifically, blue rose-patterned summer dress! I really love this dress. I love the print on the dress and I love the cut. This dress is perfect for summer outings!

With this kind of dress, you may use the dress as a skirt and a cardigan as a blouse.

Goodbye 2011. Welcome 2012. =) More looks to come! ;)
